Statement by Akio Yamaguchi, Chairperson of Keizai Doyukai on Inauguration of Reshuffled Second Takaichi Cabinet
September 17, 2026
Akio Yamaguchi
Chairperson, Keizai Doyukai
- The second Takaichi Cabinet was inaugurated today following its reshuffle. We extend our respectful welcome to the new ministerial lineup and look forward to their strong performance in executing their responsibilities in the government.
We urge the new Cabinet to clarify its policy priorities, elaborate on the timelines of each policy measure for the public, and deliver tangible results. Specifically, we call for: (1) growth investment centered on the social implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitalization, (2) ensuring a sustainable social security system with a grand picture of benefits and contributions, and (3) agile response to diplomatic and economic security.
At the same time, as the Cabinet addresses these priority issues, it must maintain a policy management framework rooted in a medium- to long-term perspective and fiscal sustainability. All policy decisions should be made with a primary focus on our responsibility to future generations, transcending the interests of current generations. - These challenges cannot be resolved by the government alone. We, as business leaders, must also take responsibility by driving productivity growth and business restructuring, while channeling our earnings into business investment for future growth, R&D, human resources, and sustained wage hikes. Meanwhile, we should not hesitate to put forward necessary, even if painful, recommendations for the future of Japan.
Keizai Doyukai is where business leaders exchange views as individuals from a nationwide perspective. Under our shared concept of 'Collaborative Growth'ーwhere mutual support drives growthーwe will contribute to fostering sustainable economic growth and revitalizing society through constructive dialogue with the new Cabinet and actions of our own.
