Statement by Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, Chairman of Keizai Doyukai
On Outcome of Charlevoix G7 Summit

June 10, 2018

Yoshimitsu Kobayashi
Chairman, Keizai Doyukai

  1. The G7 Summit 2018 ended and issued a joint communique. United States President Trump stated thereafter that he would not endorse the communique. We must express deep disappointment to the fact that G7's solidarity was impaired. We request Japanese government to use every opportunity to deepen dialogues so that the U.S. and other developed countries share the basic principles stated in the communique such as "free, fair and mutually beneficial trade and investment are key engines for growth and job creation," "the crucial role of a rules-based international trading system," and "continuation of fight against protectionism."
  2. Meanwhile, it is of great significance that the leaders of the developed countries united again on the North Korean issues, immediately before the U.S.-North Korea Summit, over denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the resolution of abductions issue Japan was seeking for long. We expect the international community to continue to act in solidarity toward solutions of these issues.
