Statement by Yasuchika Hasegawa, Chairman of Keizai Doyukai
Second Abe Cabinet's Reshuffle and New LDP Executives Lineup

September 3, 2014

Yasuchika Hasegawa
Chairman, Keizai Doyukai

The second Abe Cabinet that has been reshuffled with its announcement today deserves its name of "The Reform Implementation Cabinet" with a solid lineup consisting of key ministers remaining and ruling party veterans joining. The reshuffled Cabinet is now expected to press ahead with the reforms by swiftly making visible progress in areas such as legislation necessary for policy agendas mentioned in "The Basic Policies for Economic and Fiscal Management and Structural Reform" and "The Japan Revitalization Strategy".

In particular, policy agendas indispensable for the autonomous growth of nation's economy including local economies are as follows; first, the new market creation by pressing forward with far-reaching reforms in sectors of agriculture, medical service, and energy; second, the employment system reforms that enable labor shift to growth industries without causing unemployment; finally, strengthening of the private sectors' competitiveness with innovation and enhanced productivity. It has to be ensured that government's initiatives toward accelerated structural reforms in tandem with private sectors' challenge for changes should lead to the exit from deflation and the realization of economic growth.

Furthermore, Japanese society needs to promote diversity in order to strengthen global competitiveness whether it is for private companies or for other types of organizations. We welcome with pleasure that today's Cabinet reshuffle and Liberal Democratic Party's new executives lineup well reflect the importance of diversity.
