  1. On December 22, the Niigata assembly endorsed at its December regular meeting the decision of Governor Hideyo Hanazumi for restarting the reactors Unit 6 and 7 of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant. Accordingly, Governor Hanazumi expressed his consent to the request for understanding of the restart policy when he met Ryosei Akazawa, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry today. We respect the efforts of the officials involved to reach the local consent.
  2. We request that the government promptly address the seven items raised by Niigata prefecture. We also call on Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) to continue pursuing safety measures and nuclear emergency preparedness, while enhancing related public communication and responding to public anxieties and questions with care.
  3. From the perspective of S+3E (Safety, Energy Security, Economic Efficiency, and Environment), nuclear power is an indispensable energy source in Japan's energy policy. We hope that the nuclear power plants that have cleared the latest safety standards will resume operations in various locations.
  4. We, business leaders, will be grateful for the electricity to be supplied by the power plant for supporting the economic and social activities in the Tokyo metropolitan area. As a business association located in an electricity-consuming region, Keizai Doyukai will explore initiatives that support electricity-producing areas, such as through collaboration with relevant local bodies.
