Chairperson's Messages

Statement by Mutsuo Iwai, Acting Chairperson of Keizai Doyukai on Result of Presidential Election of Ruling LDP

October 4, 2025

Mutsuo Iwai
Acting Chairperson, Keizai Doyukai

  1. Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has elected today Ms. Sanae Takaichiーa member of the House of Representativesーas its new president. The election of the LDP's first female president marks a historical milestone in Japanese politics, ushering in diverse perspectives within the nation's political landscape. Alongside this, we expect her to demonstrate leadership in seeking solutions to various challenges Japan is facing, fostering constructive discussions and collaboration between ruling and opposition parties where necessary.
  2. During the presidential campaign, President Takaichi laid out a specific road map for various policy matters, highlighting issues such as women's health and caregiving--drawing on her own personal experience. We hope to see her policy initiatives effectively implemented going forward, yielding meaningful results. In particular, urgent action is needed to address the sustainability of social security system, employment/labor market reform, rising prices, and labor shortages.
  3. These challenges must be met with effective policy initiatives backed by adequate funding and robust institutional frameworks--not merely with ideas and general guidance. The structural reform we need is the one that delivers tangible results and fulfills our responsibility for future generations.
  4. Finally, we underscore the importance of showing an unwavering stance to reforming the LDP and political system toward restoring public trust. This is a prerequisite for overcoming the loss of confidence in the LDP triggered by the political funding scandal.
