Statement by Kengo Sakurada, Chairman of Keizai Doyukai
on Launch of Second Kishida Cabinet
November 10, 2021
Kengo Sakurada
Chairman, Keizai Doyukai
- Prime Minister Kishida's second cabinet has been inaugurated today. Under the banner of "realizing the new capitalism," what picture will the prime minister draw for Japan's future? We are looking forward to his cabinet's vision and priority issues crystallizing soon.
- The pursuit of a new form of capitalism born in Japan ahead of the rest of the world will lead to a last chance for the country's economic/social transformation and revival from the long slump. Japan cannot stand still on the path along the conventional growth strategy. We hope that the government will develop an earnest debate on key issues of Japan's future, such as fiscal health, social security, climate change, energy, and economic/national security from a comprehensive and long-term perspective. We, businesspeople, will actively participate in its process.
- The realization of a virtuous cycle of growth and distribution and sustainable economy/society would not materialize without the aim of economic growth supported by vigorous innovations in the private sector. In this regard, we request the government's firm stance to support corporate efforts to encourage various innovations such as in technology, process, and business model, with a focus on the facts at the frontline workplace. Meanwhile, we will look to the government's clear accountability for policy goals, means for achieving the goals, and their progress, regarding the short-term challenges as well as those of medium to long term.
