Roundtable with the Business Council of Canada and Canadian Government Representatives Held in Tokyo
On June 23, Keizai Doyukai held a small-group roundtable in Tokyo with the Business Council of Canada (BCC) and Canadian government and business leaders visiting Japan as part of the Team Canada Trade Mission.
The roundtable was co-hosted by Keizai Doyukai and the Business Council of Canada. Ms. Keiko Honda, Chairperson of Keizai Doyukai's Americas Committee, and Mr. Goldy Hyder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Business Council of Canada, served as hosts.
Senior Canadian government officials also joined the meeting. They included the Honourable David J. McGuinty, Minister of National Defence; Mr. Glenn Purves, Deputy Minister of International Trade; and Mr. Ian G. McKay, Ambassador of Canada to Japan and Special Envoy for the Indo-Pacific. Seven members from Keizai Doyukai also participated.
Participants exchanged views on trade, defence industrial cooperation, economic security, energy, AI, and advanced technologies. They also discussed possible areas for practical cooperation between the public and private sectors of Japan and Canada.
The discussion reaffirmed the importance of developing the Japan-Canada relationship from one between "trusted partners" into a broader strategic partnership supported by concrete cooperation.
Participants also shared the view that continued dialogue based on mutual trust will be important for building concrete projects and deepening mutual understanding.
