On the Cabinet Decision regarding the Basic Plan
for Economic and Fiscal Management, the Japan Revitalization Strategy,
and the Plan for Implementation of Regulatory Reforms

June 14, 2013

Yasuchika Hasegawa
Chairman, Keizai Doyukai

  1. Today, the cabinet agreed upon a policy package including the Basic Plan for the Economic and Fiscal Management, the Japan Revitalization Strategy, and the Plan for Implementation of Regulatory Reforms. I strongly expect the Abe administration, based on the policies and plans agreed upon today and under the leadership of Prime Minister Abe, to make full efforts to realize the vision presented in the basic plan as “realizing strong Japan, strong economy, and living in affluence, security and safety.”.
  2. For the Abe administration to achieve this, I believe further reforms are necessary in a variety of areas. Continuing beyond this summer, I would like to see the government continue to make bold efforts for reform in the following areas:
(1)to set clear and concrete roadmap to restore fiscal health
(2)to formulate truly sustainable social security systems
(3)to look into issues missing from the growth strategy
(including reforms of the employment system and agriculture sector)
(4)to promote reforms to achieve greater local autonomy and revitalization
(5)to introduce even bolder regulatory and institutional reforms
