Statement by Mutsuo Iwai, Acting Chairperson of Keizai Doyukai on U.S. President Trump's Summit Visit to Japan

Acting Chairperson, Keizai Doyukai
- Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and United States President Donald Trump had their first summit meeting in Tokyo. It was a great opportunity to build a personal trust relationship between the two leaders for cooperation, shortly after the launch of her new administration, and was a big success. We respect the efforts of the officials involved from Japan and the U.S.
- In September, Japan and the U.S. reached an agreement on U.S. tariff measures through bilateral negotiations. With concrete studies underway regarding investments into the U.S., the steadily growing importance of Japan and the U.S. as a key partner to each other has once again been reaffirmed. On the business front, we will proactively pursue win-win initiatives with our U.S. counterparts for the economic cooperation such as in building robust supply chains and securing critical minerals.
- Building on today's summit, we hope Prime Minister Takaichi will continue to uphold the solid Japan-U.S. relationship going forward, leading to enhanced bilateral economic cooperation in a new era. As business leaders, we remain committed to contributing to further prosperity of both nations by proactively strengthening economic ties through businesses in the U.S., while reinforcing preparedness for the uncertainties of the international relations.
